Waste Water Treatment By Root Zone Treatment
—————————————————————————————-

A team of students, including Raja Babu, Manish, Ugam, Mita, and Gurakesh, undertook this project model under the guidance of Head of the Civil Department at Indo Global College of Engineering.

Root Zone Treatment (RZT) is a natural and sustainable method of wastewater treatment that involves using vegetation and soil to remove pollutants from the wastewater. The wastewater is first collected and then channeled to a subsurface flow system that is covered with soil and planted with vegetation. The wastewater is slowly filtered through the soil and taken up by the plants, where it is broken down by natural processes. RZT systems are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, particularly in rural areas where traditional treatment methods are not feasible. However, the effectiveness of RZT depends on various factors such as the quality and quantity of wastewater, the design of the system, and the types of plants used.

Root Zone Treatment (RZT) has several advantages over traditional wastewater treatment methods, including:

Cost-effective: RZT systems are typically less expensive to construct and maintain than centralized treatment plants, making them a viable option for rural areas and developing countries.

Environmentally friendly: RZT systems do not require the use of chemicals or energy-intensive processes, reducing their impact on the environment.

High removal efficiency: RZT systems can effectively remove various pollutants, including organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens, from wastewater.

Sustainable: RZT systems mimic natural processes and create habitats for diverse plant and animal species, making them a sustainable option for wastewater treatment.

Flexible design: RZT systems can be designed to accommodate different types and quantities of wastewater, making them adaptable to varying conditions and needs.

Overall, RZT is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable method of wastewater treatment that offers several advantages over traditional treatment methods.
