Our fish pond has some ongoing water loss due to evaporation, animal use, plant use, and occasionally good old fashioned leaks. To save on carrying a million buckets from the rain barrels, I built a pre-treatement system and refill reservoir for city water.
Tap water first goes into the blue barrel, where we add 10ml of Aqua-Safe per ~50 gallons. That neutralizes the Chlorine and Chloramine that could hurt fish and snails. As needed, we dump the treated water from the barrel into the fish pond via an underground pipe.
I’d like to automate this with a series of filters and float valves, but ran out of time to do that for this video. Maybe later in the summer, or next year, we’ll have a more hands-off pond management system!
