Aquamira vs Sawyer water filter - Why I'm using chemical treatment for my 2020 PCT thru-hike
I’ve been using a Sawyer water filter along with a Cnoc Vecto water pouch for ages, but I’ve had a few issues with that filtration system and have decided to stick mostly to Aquamira purification drops for most of the Pacific Crest Trail, but use a Sawyer Squeeze water filter for the desert sections where clear, running water is very difficult to come by.
I’ve used a Sawyer Mini, A sawyer Micro Squeeze, the bags that come with the Sawyer filters and none have worked as well as the original Sawyer Squeeze and Cnoc, but the pouch is unreliable, not as durable as I’d like and I’m always a little paranoid that the filter may break or freeze.
So having both the drops and the filter as a backup, I will be much more confident in my filtration and purification of water on the trail.
